Tijdens het interbellum hielden de Britten eraan het Verenigd Koninkrijk en het Britse Rijk op een homogene wijze tentoon te stellen op grote internationale tentoonstellingen.  De paviljoenen in Antwerpen, Brussel en Parijs, ontworpen  door verschillende architecten, vertoonde duidelijke gelijkenissen.  Het gebruik van een leeuw als symbool voor het Britse Rijk werd overgenomen van de British Empire Exhibition (1924 - 1925) en herhaald op de volgende internationale evenementen.  Het werk van de beeldhouwers Benjamin Clemens en Frans Jochems is in bovenstaande link naast elkaar gezet.

In the middle of the intra war period of the 20th century Great Britain and by extension the complete British Empire was represented in a recognisable style at important international exhibitions.  The pavillions erected in Antwerp, Brussels and Paris bore some resemblance to each other although designed by different architects. The Lion theme used at the British Empire Exhibition (1924 - 1925)  was often used in the major exhibitions at that time. The sculptures of Benjamin Clemens and Frans Jochems can be compared to each other when clicking the link above.

Het recenste artikel uit de "Fantaisies en Moulure" reeks draagt de naam Edward.  In dit artikel bespreken we naast het model "Edward" uit de Luxval-lijn, de rol van de Britse kroonprins bij belangrijke internationale tentoonstellingen en het belang van het Britse Rijk rond de jaren dertig (van de vorige eeuw).

The most recent installment of the "Fantaisies en Moulure" series discusses the Luxval model "Edward", the role of the Prince of Wales during important international exhibitions and the importance of the British Empire during the thirties of the last century.

Wat Frans Jochems heeft betekend, voor de wereldtentoonstellingen in België en voor de deelname van het Verenigd Koninkrijk in het bijzonder, kunnen we mede dankzij de medewerking van de "VZW Frans Jochems" & "Expo 1930" opnieuw herontdekken.  Een artikel over deze beeldhouwer is eveneens on-line beschikbaar.

Thanks to the "VZW Frans Jochems" and "Expo 1930" we can rediscover the importance of the monumental works of the sculptor for the Belgian World Fairs in general and for the participation of the United Kingdom in particular.  An article covering his most important works is available on the site.

Het eerste en gelijk ook het laatste magazine van 2014 werd on-line geplaatst op de laatste dag van het jaar.  Deze keer stonden we even stil bij de wereldtentoonstelling Chicago 1934, Edward (Prins van Wales) een nieuw hoofstuk uit de "Fantaisies en Moulure" reeks en tot slot een nieuw artikel over TSF.

The first and final edition of this magazine for 2014 has been published on-line on the last day of 2014.  This editions covers Chicago 1934 World Fair, another chapter on Edward (Prince of Wales) from the  "Fantaisies en Moulure" series and finally new article of TSF (Wireless).

Expo 1897

Naar verluidt zou dankzij de wereldtentoonstelling van Parijs in 1900 de Art Nouveau stroming internationaal doorbreken.  Drie jaar voor deze tentoonstelling was er de internationale tentoonstelling van Brussel waar enkele belangrijke protagonisten van deze stroming al aan deelnamen.  CVSL, bewust van de nieuwe tendenzen, had een stand in de Belgische sectie.

The World Fair of 1900 in Paris is known amongst other things for the international promotion of the Art Nouveau style.  Three years before an international exhibition was held in Brussels.  Some of the most influential actors of this style participated in this event.  CVSL, very much aware of the new tendencies, was one of the exhibitors in the Belgian section of the event.

Hofstade-Bad

Breng een bezoek aan het virtuele Hofstade-Bad van de jaren dertig.  Het centrale thema van het amusementspark met als naam "Oud-België" was gebaseerd op de attractie "Oud-België", een onderdeel van de antwerpse editie van de internationale tentoonstelling in 1930.

The theme of old belgian villages was often used for attractions to represent Belgium at international fairs.  In 1933 an amusement park opened in Hofstade with the same name ("Oud-België") as the attraction of the Antwerp edition of the 1930 international fair.  Please pay us a visit.
